USA, Let the Journey begin! New Orleans and Santa Fe NM

May 5 – 15, 2015.

Finally on the road!

Saying goodbye is never easy, but we had been planning this adventure for over one year and we were finally ready to go.

On May 5th, 2015 we said our last au revoirs and hit the road.

Has we made our way North on the Florida Turnpike we had to pinch ourselves to make sure we were not dreaming. An overwhelming feeling of freedom and the realisation that this was not just another trip but our NEW LIFE.

No schedule, no fixed plans, no responsibilities of owning a house, just the road ahead and new experiences to be lived.

We sold and gave all our possessions and now everything we owned was our truck and what was in it. Let the JOURNEY begin!

On our way to attend the Overland Expo in Mormon Lake near Flagstaff AZ May 15 to 17, 2015.

We wanted to make a few stops along the way and take time in New Orleans, Louisiana and Santa Fe, New Mexico. We had 10 days to cover approximately 2 500 miles. After the Expo our next stop will be Grass Valley, California to pick up our V1 XPCamper and get some modifications done on our truck.

We drove through the states of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. Camped in beautiful Parks : St Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach , FL and Gulf Islands National Seashore near Biloxi, MS.

New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA)

We loved discovering New Orleans history, architecture, art, food, music, eclectic neighborhoods like the Faubourg Marigny where we stayed in a guest house built in 1840 and only 15-20 minutes walk to the French Quarter.

After a wonderful stay in New Orleans, we got on the road and drove through Louisiana and Texas. The road conditions were great and the scenery was mostly wide open planes.

We slept in Canton TX, as we checked in our hotel, we received severe weather alerts on our cellular phones and the next morning the hotel clerk told us that a tornado had hit 15 minutes away. Life continues to be an adventure!

We made a pit stop in Amarillo Texas to visit the Cadillac Ranch a public art installation created in the 70’s by a group of hippies on famous Route 66.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Our next stop was Santa Fe, New Mexico. What an amazing city! I have never seen so many art galleries, more than 200 in 2 square miles, the majority are located on Canyon Road.

Adobe style (mud bricks) houses are a Santa Fe staple.

A multicultural city where Hispanics, Native Americans, artists and retirees coexist.

We visited the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and learned about this wonderful and avangardiste artist who made Sante Fe her home.
